My psychotherapy practice
You will find a private and confidential office where we will be meeting face to face. You will be encouraged to explore and assess your specific goals and reasons for therapy as well as any relevant history. Safety, respect and genuineness provide a backdrop for us to work collaboratively. You will find me to be interactive, receptive, and able to provide supportive feed back.
As your trust and confidence grows in this non-judgmental and supportive environment, we will work together to gain new awareness of your strengths and struggles. Treatment will include examining alternative methods to deal with your problems, goal setting, and addressing your emotional hardships while also balancing the strain of current life situations, transitions, dilemmas, relationships, and any relevant events in your life that led you to where you are now.
Over the course of therapy, I will draw from a wide range of techniques and interventions that will best meet your needs. Thus, I am flexible and practical in my approach and will be responsive to the type and style of therapy that best suits you. Technically speaking the methods I find most effective include Cognitive Behavioral, Solution Focused, and Psychodynamic therapies. You can learn more about these techniques from my resources page.
You will find support in our sessions that you may not be finding in your outside life. The work we do together can be specifically directed to improve your ability to:
- Develop and sustain more satisfying relationships
- Understand the habits that cause your problems
- Recognize and control addictive, and self-destructive behaviors
- Handle life’s changes (relationships, career, family)
- Cope with traumatic memories, fears, stress, and depression
- Identify and express your feelings instead of other people’s expectations
- Deal with the conflicts in your family, workplace, and friendships
- Navigate through life’s transitions
Psychologists do not prescribe medication in the state of California. However, if over the course of therapy it is assessed that medication might be beneficial; I can help you find an appropriate psychiatrist. If you are currently taking medications, we can discuss this during the initial appointment.
You can take advantage of my private practice in San Francisco or Berkeley.
